The Minister of Sports says that “in an objective, technical, and above all legal way” they seek to recognize the new board of directors, which has not been contested.
The new directory of the Ecuadorian Olympic Committee continues not to be registered in the Ministry of Sports, although from this dependency of the State it is ratified that the electoral victory of the former swimmer Jorge Delgado Panchana placeholder image, in the previous September 4 elections, was already recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
And while Augusto Morán, outgoing president of the COE, maintains a striking public silence about why the minutes of the assembly are not signed, Sebastián Palacios, Minister of Sports, referred again to the elections. He did it on Sunday interviewed on radio Round, Quito.
Palacios, among other things, asserts that so far there is no challenge to the electoral result that favored Delgado, that the Ministry of Sports has contacted the IOC to “endorse” how the elections took place and stressed that it is “difficult to ignore” a directory endorsed by the IOC.
“The ministry has not yet registered that directory and there is a deadline. Elections, by regulation approved by the previous government, are held three months in advance. On December 4, the Morán period will end. Even that can happen several things, but the registry does not change that way. Many things are said about the election. The Mindeportes cannot be carried away by the things that are said. We let ourselves be carried away by documents, by the process and by what the regulations say regarding the elections ”, declared Palacios.
“If you ask me if there was any official challenge to the COE elections, I answer no. Be careful with that. Another thing to keep an eye on is those who participated as objective observers of the election. A representative of the IOC and a notary public were present. If as a minister they tell me: ‘Hey, your team should listen to one side or the other’, I listen to those who were targets in the election, “he added.
Palacios said that Danilo Carrera and Delgado said that “whoever wins will support the management of the other. It was a tied election and decided with a casting vote. Delgado won and he is who the IOC recognizes today (as president-elect of the COE)”. And on this point he remarked: “You have to be very clear about how difficult it is to ignore someone whom the IOC already recognizes.”
“These days we are going to have meetings with the IOC, and I am even sending a letter for them to endorse how the elections were held and that at the end of the day the registration can be done in an objective, technical and above all legal manner,” he reported. the Minister of Sport. (D)
