The NOC of Ukraine announced a possible boycott of the 2024 Olympics if Russians are admitted
The head of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Ukraine, Vadym Gutzeit, announced a possible boycott of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris if Russian athletes are admitted. It is reported by TASS.
“If we are not heard, I do not exclude the possibility that we will boycott and refuse to participate in the Olympic Games,” Gutzeit threatened. He added that Ukraine is working on further possible steps to extend sanctions and prevent Russians and Belarusians from participating in international competitions.
On January 25, the International Olympic Committee announced that it was considering the possibility of individual admission to competitions for Russian and Belarusian athletes. It is clarified that only athletes who did not support the CBO in Ukraine and did not violate anti-doping rules will be able to get permission to compete in international tournaments. The Russian Olympic Committee took the initiative as an attempt to take a step towards the athletes.
The Paris Olympic Games are scheduled to take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
