Coaches of Russian gymnasts and wrestlers declared their readiness to participate in the Asian Games
The head coach of the Russian national gymnastics team, Valentina Rodionenko, commented on the idea of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) to invite Russians to participate in the Asian Games. Her words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
“If Europe does not allow us to qualify for the Olympics, then we need to qualify at least there, in Asia. If this happens, of course, we need to perform, ”said Rodionenko.
The Wrestling Federation of Russia also reacted to the OCA proposal. “We will be ready to compete at such a serious sports forum, we will be able to adequately represent the country and our sports,” said the head of the organization, Mikhail Mamiashvili.
Earlier, the OCA invited Russian and Belarusian athletes to take part in the Asian Games. The next Asian Games will be held from September 23 to October 8, 2023 in Hangzhou, China.
At the end of February 2022, many sports organizations banned the national teams of Russia and Belarus from participating in tournaments on the recommendation of the IOC. In some disciplines, such as motorsport, cycling, tennis, boxing, MMA and chess, the Russians continue to play in a neutral status.
