Two-time world figure skating champion Irina Slutskaya spoke about men’s participation in rhythmic gymnastics competitions. She shared her opinion on the air of the show “Antonyms” with Anton Krasovsky.
Slutskaya, 42, called men’s performances in this sport a nightmare. She admitted that this is unusual for her, and rhythmic gymnastics has always been considered a sport for beautiful, fragile, aesthetic girls. Slutskaya believes that male athletes imitate women in gymnastics.
“This is absurd! I don’t want to see a man trying to be like a woman, ”she said. However, Slutskaya admitted that in tens of years the participation of men in this discipline will no longer cause controversy.
In January 2021, men took part in the Russian rhythmic gymnastics championship for the first time. The athletes demonstrated acrobatic elements, as well as exercises with a club, a rope, two rings and a stick.
