1980 Games champion Natalia Linichuk said she returned from the US to work as a coach
Olympic champion in ice dancing, coach Natalya Linichuk named the reasons for returning from the USA to Russia. Her words are quoted by TASS.
Linichuk stated that she wants to work as a coach with Russian skaters and is open to offers. “It’s not only dancing that interests me, I have always helped single skaters and pair skaters in terms of understanding themselves, feeling gliding, helping them with jumps,” she said, noting that there are many talented athletes and coaches in Russia.
On January 22, it became known that 66-year-old Linichuk, who left to live in the States in the early 1990s, returned to her homeland. It is noted that she was present at the First Channel Cup in Moscow on January 21.
Together with Gennady Karponosov, she became the Olympic champion in 1980. The couple also has two victories at the World and European Championships. After the end of their careers, the athletes worked as coaches in the United States. Under their leadership, in particular, Oksana Grischuk and Evgeny Platov, Irina Lobacheva and Ilya Averbukh, Tatyana Navka and Roman Kostomarov and other athletes performed.
