The RFU announced the agreement with UEFA on the procedure for interaction on the return of Russia to tournaments
The Russian Football Union (RFU) made a statement following a meeting with representatives of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA). It is reported by RIA Novosti.
The RFU said that the parties agreed on the procedure for further cooperation on the return of Russian teams and clubs to international competitions and agreed to continue contacts. It is noted that the next meeting between UEFA and the RFU should take place in February 2023.
The meeting on the return of the Russians to the tournaments took place on January 24. The meeting was represented by RFU Secretary General Maxim Mitrofanov and President of the Russian Premier League Alexander Alaev.
On December 30, 2022, the RFU created a working group that should study the issue of moving from UEFA to the Asian Confederation. At the same time, UEFA opposes Russia’s desire to leave the organization.
On February 28, the International Football Federation (FIFA) and UEFA excluded Russian teams and clubs from international tournaments. The teams do not play in European competitions, and the Russian team has lost the opportunity to compete for reaching the finals of the 2022 World Cup.
