The next phase of the world handball championship is behind us. On Sunday, Poland faced Iran, but even before this match it was known that there was no chance of advancing to the quarter-finals. The Poles dominated the match against the Asian team and won 26:22, which secured the fourth place in the table of the first phase of the main phase. The final settlement of places in the group took place after the evening meeting between France and Spain.

In the first match on Sunday, the Slovenians defeated Montenegro 31:23 and took third place in the table of the first phase of the main phase. The Montenegrins were in fifth place and were waiting for the result of Poland’s match with Iran. The Biało-Czerwoni easily defeated their rivals, thanks to which they gained two points and finally finished the competition in fourth place. Iran, on the other hand, finished in last place with zero points.
The last meeting of the “Polish group” heralded great emotions. It is true that Spain and France had already secured a place in the quarter-finals, but they were fighting for the first place in the group. At the break both teams were tied 13:13 and the result of the match was decided by the second half of the game. For a long time, the Spaniards controlled the game and were leading by up to three points. The French, however, managed to catch up with their rivals, and later they themselves took a three-point lead, which decreased only in the last action of the match. France won 28:26 and secured first place in the group.
