Arsenal beats Manchester United with late goal and maintains advantage at the top of the English

For the 21st round of English Championship, Arsenal beat Manchester United 3-2 this Sunday at the Emirates Stadium. Goals were scored by Nketiah (twice) and Saka, while the visitors scored through Rashford and Lisandro Martínez.

With the result, Premier League leaders Arsenal maintain their advantage over Manchester City at five points. Mikel Arteta’s team, who still have one game less than the deputy leader, returns to the field precisely against Pep Guardiola’s team next Friday, for the FA Cup.

Manchester United, on the other hand, fell to fourth place with the tie. Erik ten Hag’s charges will face Nottingham Forest next Wednesday, in a duel valid for the English League Cup.

The game

Arsenal even started the match better, but it was United who opened the scoring. In the 17th minute of the game, Rashford drove past Partey and fired a powerful shot from outside the area into the right corner past goalkeeper Ramsdale.

Even with the advantage on the scoreboard, Manchester could not stay ahead for long. Seven minutes later, Xhaka crossed the ball into the penalty area and Nketiah broke from behind the defense to level the header.

In the second half, it was Arsenal who took the lead. At eight minutes, Saka drove the ball down the left and kicked it into the right corner of goalkeeper De Gea, with no chance of defense.

Six minutes later, it was United’s turn to throw a bucket of cold water on their rivals’ fans. After a corner kick, Ramsdale released the ball and Lisandro Martínez headed it in to tie the game once again.

After the 2-2, Arsenal continued to press the visitors. At 38 minutes, the ball was left in the middle of the area for Nketiah, who shot hard to the goal and forced De Gea to make the most difficult defense of the game.

At 45 of the second stage, the Gunners finally managed to get ahead again on the scoreboard. After Zinchenko’s cross, Odegaard deflected and Nketiah completed it into the back of the net. Duly reviewed by VAR, the goal was confirmed for Arsenal.
