Real Sociedad, runner-up in the Super Cup after losing the final against Barcelona (0-3)

Real Sociedad lost the final of the Spanish Super Cup against Barcelona by 0-3 this Sunday, January 22 at the Romano José Fouto stadium. That way, Barça was proclaimed champion.

The first chance came from the txuri-urdin team in the 4th minute after a corner kick, but Amaiur Sarriegi’s shot went just wide. Barça’s response came in the 12th minute; goalkeeper Lete avoided the Barca team’s goal. Almost immediately, in the 13th minute, on their second occasion, Barcelona did not forgive; Aitana Bonmati scored 0-1 after receiving a pass from Geyse in the area and beating Lete from below.

Afterwards, Barcelona took possession of the ball, but neither team generated scoring chances. The Catalan team moved the ball from one side to the other, and gave Real no options to go on the attack.

Before the break, in the 42nd minute, Barça was able to increase their lead, but Lete deflected Geyse’s shot, and the txuri-urdin went to the locker room a goal behind.

At the restart, two minutes after the start of the second half, Barcelona extended their lead with a new goal from Aitana Bonmatí; Geyse made a good move down the wing, gave the pass to the edge of the area, and Aitana Bonmatí beat Lete for the second time (0-2).

One minute after Barça’s second goal, Barça was about to score the third, but the post repelled Mariona’s shot. La Real responded in the 57th minute with a shot from Jensen that went high. Five minutes later, Lete prevented Barcelona’s goal after clearing Oshoala’s shot.

In the 65th minute, the bad news accumulated for the San Sebastian team: Gabriela García was injured and was unable to continue on the pitch. The player was removed on a stretcher.

Real Sociedad had the opportunity to close the gap in the 72nd minute; however, the goalkeeper Paños stopped Franssi’s shot, and prevented the txuri-urdin team from getting into the game.

In the final stretch, Barcelona had several chances to score another goal, but Real did a great defensive job. When it seemed that the match was going to end without more goals, in the last play (minute 96) Oshoala made it 0-3 on the scoreboard and rounded off the Barca triumph.

In the end, Real Sociedad was runner-up, and Barcelona won the Spanish Super Cup title.
