Xavi Henández was introduced as Barcelona’s new coach this Monday. In one of the subjects discussed at the press conference, the Spaniard confirmed that he had received a proposal from the CBF to be Tite’s assistant and take over the Brazilian team after the 2022 World Cup, but he refused as his goal was to train the Catalan club.
“It’s true that I was offered. First I would be Tite’s assistant, and after the World Cup, I would take over the Seleção. But my idea was to train Barça,” stated the former world champion player with Spain in 2010.
Xavi is one of Barcelona’s biggest idols for all he has accomplished at the club as a player. There were 767 games, with 85 goals scored and 185 assists.
Before retiring, he played for Al Sadd, in Qatar, the club where he did his first job as a coach. He has led the team in 91 matches since 2019, with 62 wins, 13 draws and 16 defeats. During the period, he won seven titles with the team.
