Argentine businessman Burzaco accused FIFA of being open to accepting bribes
Argentine businessman Alejandro Burzaco has accused the International Football Federation (FIFA) of corruption. His words are reported by Bloomberg.
Burzaco testified at the trial of two former Fox sports broadcasters Hernán López and Carlos Martinez, who are accused of paying bribes to obtain broadcast rights. “It was like the FIFA executive committee wrote in the clouds, in the sky: “We are open to bribes,” he said.
Burzako had previously also been accused in this case. In 2015, he pleaded guilty and began cooperating with the investigation. So, the businessman said that the sports authorities of Qatar paid several officials more than a million dollars to get the right to host the 2022 World Cup.
The FIFA corruption scandal erupted in 2015. Then the head of FIFA, Joseph Blatter, and the president of the Union of European Football Associations, Michel Platini, were removed from football activities.
