In Klopp’s 1,000th game, Liverpool and Chelsea are still in the middle of the English table

Liverpool and Chelsea faced each other this Saturday morning at Anfield, in an attempt to break away from the English Premier League mid-table. However, the confrontation, which also marked the 1,000th game of Klopp’s career, was lukewarm and ended in a goalless draw,

In this way, the two teams wasted the chance to get closer to the qualification zone for the next Champions League and are still down. Liverpool is in eighth place, with 29 points, while Chelsea is in tenth place, with the same score.

The main star of the match was the Ukrainian Mykhailo Mudryk, recently signed by the Blues for an astronomical amount of 100 million euros (R$ 550 million). The young man started on the bench, but made his debut in the final stage and was an escape valve for Graham Potter’s team on the left side.

On the other hand, the Reds started without Darwin Núñez, with Gakpo and Salah in command of the attack. The Egyptian, however, was not up to date and it was not this time that the Dutchman was disenchanted with his new club (he has already made three appearances for the team).

Liverpool’s next commitment in the Premier League is only on February 4, against Wolverhampton. Before, Klopp’s team faces Brighton for the FA Cup, next Saturday. Chelsea, on the other hand, will try to shake the dust and end the bad phase on the 3rd, against Fulham.

How was the game?

The duel started lively with a goal scored by Havertz in less than three minutes, but which ended up being annulled after the referee reviewed the bid and noted offside. The emotions, however, stopped there.

Chelsea even managed to endanger Alisson’s goal, forcing the Brazilian goalkeeper to make a good save in the 31st minute. Defender Badiashile completed a header cross, but saw the archer flatten. The young winger Hall also had a good opportunity in the sequence, inside the area, but sent it outside.

Liverpool, on the other hand, didn’t demand much from goalkeeper Kepa and only managed to hit his first shot on goal at 38′, in a shot by Thiago that stopped in the hands of the Spanish archer. In short, the clash between two teams in the middle of the table ended up being a lot of sweat, but little inspiration in the initial stage.

The second half appeared to follow the same course until Mudryk entered. The Ukrainian boy set the match on fire on the left side of Chelsea’s attack, and almost scored the first goal in the 18th minute, in a finish that rocked the outside of the net.

The Reds responded in the 23rd minute, with Gakpo, who spun around inside the area, but Kepa calmly defended. Darwin Núñez and Alexander-Arnold also had chances to open the scoring, at 30′ and 37′, respectively, but wasted.
