The head of the Russian Tennis Federation (FTR), Shamil Tarpishchev, urged not to pay attention to the insults of Russian athletes by Ukrainian fans at the Australian Open. The words of the functionary leads RIA Novosti.
“Any dispute or statement works against us. We are entering into a discussion that we should not enter into. You need to be above this behavior, ”Tarpishchev commented on the situation. He called the words of the fans “part of an unworthy game” against the Russian team.
Earlier Thursday, January 19, Russian tennis player Andrey Rublev complained about fans with Ukrainian flags in the stands during the second round match against Finn Emil Ruusuvuori. “There are no problems with the flag at all. They just say bad words to me, ”said the Russian.
Earlier, the Australian Tennis Federation banned fans from bringing Russian and Belarusian flags to the stands. These measures were taken because of the claims of Ukrainian viewers.
