Russian figure skaters Davis and Smolkin were in talks to move to the Georgian national team
Russian figure skaters Diana Davis and Gleb Smolkin, performing in ice dancing, could go to the Georgian national team. This became known to RIA Novosti from a source familiar with the situation.
According to the source, the athletes were negotiating a change of sports citizenship in the fall. However, the transition to a new team fell through, because the parties did not come to a positive decision.
On January 16, it was reported that Davis, the daughter of Russian coach Eteri Tutberidze, and Smolkin could move to the Israeli national team, but later the head of the Israeli Figure Skating Federation, Boris Khait, denied this information.
Davis and Smolkin made their senior Russian debut last season. They became eighth at the European Championships and took 14th place at the Beijing Olympics. In the 2022/2023 season, athletes living in the United States refused to compete in Russian tournaments due to problems with documents for leaving the country.
