With penalty at the end, Sporting beats Vizela at home for the Portuguese Championship

This Friday, in a match valid for the 17th round of the Portuguese Championship, Sporting beat Vizela 2-1 at the José Alvalade stadium. The goals were scored by Pedro Gonçalves and Pedro Porro. Alex Mendez scored for the visitors.

With the result, Sporting avoided the bad phase and got three points again. The team stumbled in the last rounds and could be, in case of defeat, nine points behind third-placed Porto. Vizela, on the other hand, remained in eighth place with the defeat.

Sporting’s next game will be this Tuesday against Arouca, for the League Cup. Vizela will face Rio Ave next Sunday, for the national championship.

The game

Taking danger in launches and speed plays, Sporting had great chances to open the scoring in the first half.

Just after four minutes, Paulinho came face-to-face with the goalkeeper and shot in the middle, for Buntic’s defense. At 10, Vizela responded with a similar play, but forward Osmajic kicked weakly in the middle of the goal.

The Lisbon team almost opened the scoring twice with Trincão. In the 11th minute, the attacker kicked a cross to Buntic’s defense. Already at 18, the player received a launch from Coates and had the clearest chance in the first stage, but kicked but missed the opportunity.

In the second half, Sporting managed to open the scoring in the 58th minute. After crossing Matheus Reis, Pedro Porro adjusted for Pedro Gonçalves to touch the back of the net.

With 1-0 on the scoreboard, Sporting continued to attack. At 62, Paulinho beat the defense and hit the ball, but the ball exploded on the crossbar.

Despite the volume of the principals, Vizela responded. Matheus Pereira crossed the area and Alex Mendez headed the goal, tying the duel in the 74th minute.

The game already seemed decided. However, already in the additions, the referee scored a penalty for Sporting after the lateral Igor Julião, ex-Fluminense, went up with his foot high in the area. Pedro Porro put it in the left corner of the goalkeeper and secured the victory for the Lions.

Arouca vs Portimonense

In the other game this Friday in the Portuguese Championship, Arouca thrashed Portimonense by 4 to 0. The highlight of the match was striker Oday Dabbagh, who scored two goals for the home team. With the result, Arouca rose to sixth place and dreams of a place in European competitions. Portimonense, on the other hand, parked in 12th position.
