Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas criticized local players for a photo with Karpin

Estonian Prime Minister Kaya Kallas spoke about the photo of local football players with the head coach of the Russian national team Valery Karpin. Her words are quoted by ERR.

“In my opinion, this is not just a story about friends drinking beer in a bar. How can you get together like this and pretend that nothing is happening? It’s impossible!” — politician criticized the players.

She called sport an element of soft power, which Russia uses for its own purposes.

On January 3, the MTU Jalgpallihaigla fan association criticized the publication of a photograph in which, in addition to Karpin, Estonian national team captain Konstantin Vasiliev, midfielder Sergei Zenev, ex-player Andrey Stepanov, assistant head coach Andres Oper and others were present. After that, the players apologized for the picture.

Karpin is a native of the Estonian city of Narva. He has been the head coach of the Russian national team since the summer of 2021.
