Died the owner of the Cup of European handball champions in CSKA Yuri Zhitnikov. This is reported by TASS with reference to the press service of the Russian Handball Federation (FGR).
“At the age of 62, the lineman, master of sports of international class Yuri Zhitnikov passed away. The FGR expresses condolences to the family and friends of Yuri Zhitnikov, ”the press service of the organization said in a statement. The cause of death of the former athlete is not specified.
Zhitnikov is known for his performances in CSKA, as well as in the Hungarian Vesprem and the Krasnodar Harvest and SKIF teams.
In 1987, together with the army team, Zhitnikov won the Cup of Cups and the USSR Championship, and a year later he won the European Champions Cup. As part of Veszprem, the lineman also won the Cup Winners’ Cup in 1992.
