La Liga files lawsuit against FIFA at CAS over changes to Club World Cup format
The leadership of La Liga filed a lawsuit against the International Football Federation (FIFA) in the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). AS reports.
The reason was a change in the format of the Club World Cup, namely the participation of 32 teams in the tournament from 2025. According to the leaders of the championship of Spain, FIFA does not care about the football ecosystem. “She only thinks about a small group of clubs when, like in football, there are many leagues, thousands of clubs and players who do not participate in these tournaments,” they said.
The first club world championship took place in 2000. The current holder of the trophy is the English Chelsea. Real Madrid has the most wins in the tournament with four wins.
The 2023 Club World Cup will take place in Morocco from 1 to 11 February. It will feature the best clubs from the six continental confederations, as well as the champion of Morocco’s top football division. The Spanish Championship will be represented by Real Madrid.
