Zenit coach Semak said that Lovren, who left the club, deserved a contract with Lyon
The head coach of the St. Petersburg “Zenith” Sergey Semak spoke about the departure of the Croatian defender Dejan Lovren from the club. The words of the specialist are given on the official website of the team.
“Of course, it’s not the most pleasant news for us – we hoped that Dejan would play with us at least until the end of the season,” the coach said. He added that in the 2022/2023 season, the football player played great both in the Russian Premier League for the club and at the World Cup in Qatar for the Croatian national team. Semak noted that Lovren deserved a contract with Lyon.

On January 2, it became known that the 33-year-old Lovren officially moved to the French Lyon. Earlier, RB Sport announced that the St. Petersburg team would receive two million euros as part of the deal. The French must pay blue-white-blue compensation for the early termination of the contract with the defender, since Lovren had to spend another six months at Zenit.
Lovren moved to Zenit in 2020. Together with the blue-white-blue football player became a two-time champion of Russia and a three-time winner of the country’s Super Cup. He already played for Lyon from 2010 to 2013.
