Former Milan striker Andriy Shechenko has been named Genoa’s new coach. After the resignation of Daniele Ballardini on Saturday, the club announced the commander on Sunday.
“Welcome, Mr. Shevchenko,” wrote Genoa on its website as it announced the return to Italy of the 2004 Ballon d’Or winner, 45, who will have her first experience as a club coach.
Shevchenko, who stepped down as Ukraine coach last summer, has a contract until June 30, 2024. The arrival of the former top scorer is part of the era’s change desired by the club’s new American owner, the 777 Partners fund.
The “Shave” left fond memories in Italy, where they landed in 1999 from Dynamo Kiev. In 2000 and 2004 he finished as the top scorer in the Italian Championship.
