Olympic champion Nathan Chen says he has no idea about the situation with Valieva’s case
The champion of the 2022 Olympic Games in men’s skating, American Nathan Chen, spoke about the investigation into the doping case of Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva. His words are quoted by Inside the Games.
“I am in a position where I really have no idea about the situation. There are things that are not completely under our control, ”said the skater. He noted that the American team is solid and waiting for the results of the check.
On January 13, it became known that the Russian Anti-Doping Agency informed the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) that Valieva was not guilty of violating anti-doping rules. It was reported that WADA was not happy with this verdict and would appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
At the 2022 Olympics, Valieva won gold in the team competition, but the winners, including the US team, who won silver, were not awarded due to a doping scandal involving the athlete. In the sample of the skater from December 2021, traces of the banned drug trimetazidine were found. At the same time, CAS allowed her to participate in the individual tournament, where she took fourth place.
