José Pileggi, who now chairs the new Emelec board of directors, already had his first contact with his peer from Barcelona SC, Carlos Alfaro Moreno. For the bullfighter helmsman both directives “have a lot in common”, however he believes that the return of visiting fans when the Astillero Clásico is played is “very distant”, either at the George Capwell stadium or at the Monumental Banco Pichincha.

In days gone by Pileggi, in an interview with THE UNIVERSEalso considered that it is complicated that the most traditional duel of Ecuadorian soccer can be experienced with fans of both teams from Guayaquil in the stands of a stage at the same time.
“A dream that I have as president of Emelec, and as a football fan, is to be able to sit down again, as I did in the past, with my friends who wear the yellow (shirt) to watch the classic match together. That was soccer in Guayaquil until a few years ago, then there were confrontations between bars and we had to have the fans separate. First we must build at home the conditions to eliminate violence”, said Pileggi.
“Barcelona would also have to do that. Leaders must begin to work together to strengthen a good relationship. On the court we can be rivals, but outside we have the obligation to be friends. There is a long job to do. We hope to make it happen in the future to see the Clásico del Astillero together (with both fans in the stadiums)”, added the electricity president in this newspaper.
Meanwhile, Alfaro Moreno informed THE UNIVERSE that he held a meeting with his electric peers in which he insisted that the two clubs are “brothers” and that the rivalry should only last 90 minutes.
“I had lunch with President Pileggi and with Vice President Jorge Bonnard, who is my great friend. We have shared a pleasant moment. Barcelona and Emelec are neighborhood brothers and sports rivals for 90 minutes. Although the reality is that we always want to beat them”, specified the Canarian headline.
“You have to start setting an example from the outside, we have some situations in common with the current leadership of Emelec to work on, but having visiting fans (in the Shipyard classics) is something that I see as far away. It is an enormous responsibility”, added Alfaro Moreno about the claim of the millionaires.
He said that in order to meet the objective of bringing their fans together in the same stadium, as in the past, both institutions “must work hand in hand with the authorities and I insist: we must set an example. I think we are not ready for the return of visiting fans (during the Clásico del Astillero)”, he commented.
Alfaro Moreno, in his talk with this newspaper, took the opportunity to refer to the previous blue president. “We have great respect for Nassib Neme, we have always highlighted his management. He has been the winningest president in the history of Emelec (six national titles, the last four in the electric presidency in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017). He has left a great legacy ”, concluded the director of Barcelona SC. (D)
