The Disciplinary Committee of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency acquitted figure skater Valieva

The Disciplinary Committee of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) acquitted figure skater Kamila Valieva. This was reported on the website of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

RUSADA informed WADA that Valieva was not at fault for the anti-doping rule violation. “The committee has not imposed any sanctions, except for the annulment of her results as of the date of sampling (December 25, 2021),” the organization said in a statement. It is noted that WADA will appeal this decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

On November 14, WADA expressed concern about the delay in the figure skater’s case and the postponement of the hearings to RUSADA, after which it transferred the case to CAS. The agency called for Valieva to be disqualified for four years from the date of the decision, to cancel her results starting from December 25, 2021, and to deprive her of all medals and prize money.

At the 2022 Olympics, Valieva won gold in the team competition, but the Russian team was not awarded due to a doping scandal with her participation. In the sample of the skater from December 2021, traces of the banned drug trimetazidine were found. At the same time, CAS allowed her to participate in the individual tournament, where she took fourth place.
