Sergei Kostomarov, the father of Olympic champion in ice dancing Roman Kostomarov, spoke about his son’s admission to intensive care and denied his treatment by swimming in an ice hole. His words are quoted by Match TV.
“Roma has not been treated for anything now. He just caught a cold somewhere. He is a trained athlete. I’m generally shocked that he got so seriously ill and where he could catch a cold like that, ”said the skater’s father.
The man added that there is no connection with his son, who is in a stable serious condition, and information about him is reported every day to the athlete’s wife, figure skater Oksana Domnina.
Earlier it was reported that 45-year-old Roman Kostomarov fell ill a week before entering the hospital, but continued to perform on the show, despite the high temperature. It was alleged that instead of turning to specialists, the athlete was treated by swimming in the hole.
Kostomarov was hospitalized on 10 January. He is in intensive care under medical sedation. He was diagnosed with left-sided pneumonia in combination with influenza B. The athlete is connected to a ventilator, as well as to an apparatus for saturating the blood with oxygen.
