Former UFC Champion Cormier Says Khabib Nurmagomedov’s MMA Legacy Will Be Eternal
Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) champion Daniel Cormier said that the legacy of Russian mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov will be eternal. His words are quoted by the ESPN MMA YouTube channel.
“For me, his departure is another proof that Khabib is special. Because he chose a family instead of such attractive things as money and fame, ”cormier appreciated the decision of the fighter. He added that Nurmagomedov’s departure from MMA made him think about the value of time spent with family.
On January 7, it became known about Nurmagomedov’s decision to leave the MMA industry. Later, his second cousin and head of Eagle FC promotion Shamil Zavurov said that the Russian would limit his presence in this sport, but would not leave it completely.
Nurmagomedov defended his UFC lightweight title three times before retiring. The athlete won 29 victories in professional fights according to the rules of MMA, without suffering a single defeat. The Russian held his last fight in October 2020, being stronger than the American Justin Gaethje.
