Russian Robert Schwartzman will become a reserve pilot for Ferrari in Formula 1
Russian Robert Schwartzman will become a reserve driver for Ferrari. It is reported by Motorsport.it.
Schwartzman, 23, will replace fellow reserve driver Antonio Giovinazzi for four stages. The Italian will miss these competitions, because in parallel he will compete in the FIA WEC endurance races.
Schwartzman, who has an Israeli racing license, made his Formula 1 debut in October 2022. He took part in the first free practice session of the US Grand Prix as a test driver. The Russian showed the 16th result, behind the leader, the Spaniard Carlos Sainz, also representing Ferrari, by 2.094 seconds.
Previously, the Russian played for the Prema team, in which he won the Formula 3 championship in 2019. He also finished second in the 2021 Formula 2 season.
The International Motorsport Federation (FIA) did not completely remove the Russians from competitions under its auspices. Domestic athletes continue to compete in tournaments under a neutral flag.
