Rider Migal was suspended from the international tournament in Oman due to a mistake with the Russian flag
Russian driver and founder of the Fresh Auto Drift team, Denis Migal, has been suspended from participation in the Oman International Drift Championship (OIDC) due to the tricolor scandal. It is reported by Autosport.com.
The reason was a technical error of the organizers of the international championship, who first asked Migal to compete in a neutral status, and then placed the Russian flag next to his name. The athlete said that the SMM team corrected the mistake by replacing the tricolor with a black image, but the original image caused outrage among many fans.
Migal said that after a wave of hate, the Oman Automobile Federation withdrew him from the competition without explaining his decision. The rider emphasized that a private letter of apology had been sent to his team.
The International Motorsport Federation (FIA) did not completely remove the Russians from competitions under its auspices. Domestic athletes continue to compete in tournaments under a neutral flag.
