BWAA recognized Russian Dmitry Bivol as the best boxer of 2022
The Boxing Writers Association of America (BWAA) has recognized Russian Dmitry Bivol as the best boxer of 2022. This was reported on the website of the organization.
Bivol became the first Russian to receive the award in its 84 years of existence. The BWAA emphasized that their decision was influenced by the athlete’s victories over the Mexicans Saul Alvarez and Gilberto Ramirez. It is noted that Bivol was chosen by voting within the editorial office.
In December 2022, Bivol was named Boxer of the Year by the World Boxing Association (WBA). The President of the organization, Gilberto Mendoza, noted the efforts and dedication of the boxer.
On the night of November 6, Bivol defeated Ramirez in Abu Dhabi by unanimous decision and defended his WBA world title. The Mexican suffered the first defeat of his career. Bivol won the 21st time. Thus, he remained undefeated.
