Russian football referee Sergei Karasev retires from international football
Russian football referee Sergei Karasev has announced his retirement from international football. His words are quoted by Match TV.
“I will be 44 years old, for almost a year we have not judged in Europe. How long this will last is unknown. And when everything returns, I will not be younger. A lot of time not to judge in Europe is still simple, ”said the referee. He added that after the suspension is over, Russian specialists will not be appointed to international matches for a long time due to a long break in work.
In May last year, Karasev spoke about the financial problems that arose due to the removal of the Russians. “We are used to earning in Europe and living on this money. Now the income is only domestic. And it got hard,” he said.
On March 2, 2022, the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) announced that they would not appoint Russian referees for matches under their auspices. They stressed that the sanctions against Russia do not apply to match officials, but it was decided to refuse their services “due to the current circumstances and difficulties with the departure of Russians abroad.”
