PSG owner QSI could buy Manchester United or Liverpool
Investment company Qatar Sports Investments (QSI), which owns the French club Paris Saint-Germain, wants to buy one of the clubs in the English Premier League. It is reported by Bloomberg, citing a source close to the negotiations.
According to the agency, Manchester United and Liverpool are the priority options, and discussions were also held with Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy. The owners of QSI are considering both the option of repurchasing the full package of shares, and the acquisition of a small stake in one of the teams.
The rules of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) prohibit clubs belonging to the same group of companies from participating in the same competition. However, teams are allowed to compete if the owner holds a major stake in one of them, and a minor stake in the other.
On December 12, 2022, it became known that the Glazer family of American entrepreneurs, who own Manchester United, wants to sell the club in 2023. Former Manchester United footballer David Beckham has expressed a desire to buy part of the team’s shares. Liverpool was also put up for sale by the American company Fenway Sports Group (FSG) due to the failure of the Super League idea.
