Welsh footballer Gareth Bale retires at 33
Five-time Champions League winner Welsh midfielder Gareth Bale Twitter announced the end of his professional career.
“After a careful and thoughtful decision, I announce my immediate retirement from club and international football,” the 33-year-old wrote. He called the decision the most difficult in life.
Bale’s last club was Major League Soccer (MLS) Los Angeles, where he joined in 2022. Prior to this, the rights to the player belonged to Real Madrid, the situation in which did not suit Bale. The midfielder demanded to increase the amount of playing time for him, but did not get what he wanted.
Together with Real Madrid, Bale won the Champions League five times, the Spanish Championship three times, and the UEFA Super Cup. He became the most expensive player in the history of Madrid. The transfer of the midfielder from the English Tottenham in 2013 cost a creamy 100 million euros.
