Russian striker “Washington Capitals” Alexander Ovechkin was marked by a new achievement in the National Hockey League (NHL). This was reported on the league website.

The captain of the capital’s team set a record for games played in the NHL among Russians. The meeting of “Washington” with the “Columbus Blue Jackets”, which ended with a score of 1: 0, was the 1317th hockey player in his career in the league. He surpassed Alexei Kovalev in this indicator, who played 1316 times in the NHL.

The 37-year-old Ovechkin, who ranks second in the list of the best scorers in NHL history, has 809 goals. Thus, the Russian hockey player reduced the backlog to 85 goals from Canadian Wayne Gretzky, who hit the opponents’ gates 894 times and is the leader in the league snipers race.

Ovechkin has been playing in the NHL since 2005. He spent all seasons in North America with Washington. Together with the club, the hockey player won the Stanley Cup in 2018.
