The way in which Uruguay was eliminated from the Qatar 2022 World Cup still keeps the controversy going, especially due to the acts that occurred after the game against Ghana in which some of its players were involved.
Uruguay claimed the bad arbitration of the German Daniel Siebert, who, in the opinion of the Celestes, stopped whistling a couple of panels in his favor.
After the clash that ended with a 2-0 victory in favor of Uruguay, the players paid for their frustration in different ways.
One of them, the most striking, was Edinson Cavani, who hit the VAR monitor on the way between the field and the dressing room, an issue that could lead to a sanction.
In this regard, the striker was clear in saying that if the referee is penalized “they should put him in jail”
“If they penalize me for hitting the VAR, the referee, for having taken us out of the World Cup, they have to put him in jail, because they are errors that, with the VAR, all the cameras and all the referees behind, you cannot make them ”, declared Cavani, according to the Spanish website Mundo Deportivo.

The player stressed that he is concerned about the possible sanction, but warned that the FIFA Disciplinary Committee “must put itself a little on the player’s side, not just the referee’s.”
“They must see what has happened, and why things have happened in these ways,” he said.

FIFA itself announced that on December 5 it opened a file against the forward as well as José María Giménez, Diego Godín and Fernando Muslera.
Despite the victory, La Celeste was eliminated from the World Cup for finishing third in their group with four points, tied with South Korea in units and goal average, but with only two goals scored by four of the Asians.
In the end, it was Korea that qualified, but if Uruguay had scored a little more, they would have gone through the balance of goals.
