The organizers of the Australian Open refused to remove tennis players from Russia and Belarus

The Australian Tennis Federation (Tennis Australia) refused to remove Russian and Belarusian athletes from participation in the Australian Open games (Australian Open). This was reported by the 9News TV channel.

The organization indicated that its position regarding the Russians will remain unchanged, despite all calls for the disqualification of players. They assured that tennis players from Russia and Belarus will participate in a neutral status, which is “fully in line with the principles set out by the Minister of Sports of Australia.”

Earlier, Ukrainian Ambassador to Australia Vasily Miroshnichenko made a demand not to allow the Russians to the tournament. He threatened that he planned to get a meeting with the chairman and CEO of Tennis Australia to state the position of the Ukrainian government.

The Russians continue to play at tournaments of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) and the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA). However, the athletes were not allowed to participate in Wimbledon due to the decision of the British authorities. The Russians were also banned from playing in tournaments under the auspices of the International Tennis Federation (ITF).
