Valieva said she would have left figure skating if Tutberidze had not taken her to the group
Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva spoke about the influence of coach Eteri Tutberidze on her career. Her words are quoted by “7 days”.
“If Tutberidze hadn’t taken me into her group, I would have left figure skating altogether,” the athlete said. The figure skater noted that then she had doubts about the prospects and she could only continue to dance and ballet.
Previously, Valieva spoke about the negative messages addressed to her. “I read a lot of hate about the coaches and myself,” shared the 16-year-old athlete. The figure skater said that the opinion of only her coaches and the people who surround her is important to her.
At the 2022 Games, the champion of Russia and Europe Valieva won gold in the team competition, but the Russian team was not awarded due to a doping scandal involving an athlete. In the sample of the skater from December 2021, traces of the banned drug trimetazidine were found. At the same time, the Court of Arbitration for Sport allowed her to participate in the individual tournament, where she took fourth place.
