The Ecuador Under 20 team counts the days and intensifies its preparation in Quito, facing the South American of this category that will take place in Cali and Bogotá, Colombia.
The youth team has its sights set on qualifying for the Under 20 World Cup to be held this year in Indonesia, an instance in which it hopes to return, just as it did in the previous edition.
In addition to this, it has the responsibility of fighting to try to repeat the title achieved four years ago, a competition in which it was local.
According to their coach Jimmy Bran, the team, like the rising generations of relief players, must get used to qualifying for the World Cups.
“Our goal is to try to seduce the Ecuadorian player in these categories, so that it becomes a custom to qualify for the youth world championships, taking advantage of the fact that they are very good and talented. It only remains to promote them and exploit them at their highest level,” Bran told the EFE news agency.
“We have a good squad that can qualify for the World Cup”: Jimmy Bran, coach of Ecuador Sub 20, trusts the level of the team
Ecuador shares Group B along with Chile, Bolivia, Venezuela and Uruguay, a key in which it will seek to be among the top three to qualify for the final hexagonal.
The South American distributes four direct places to the World Cup, while the first three will also get a pass to the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games.
To do this, Bran highlighted the work carried out last year with his team, with whom he played in the final of the Asunción 2022 South American Games, where they won the silver medal after losing 1-0 to Paraguay.
The coach confirmed that the team that played in that final “will be the base for the South American in Colombia.”
“Although they did not lend us several players who are active in foreign clubs, we have a very good squad that can qualify for the World Cup in Indonesia. Also, and why not, to retain the title thanks to the good level of the team we have”, he added.
Ecuador will travel to Colombia on January 17, to debut on January 20 against Chile and then face Bolivia on January 22, Venezuela on January 26, and close the group stage against Uruguay on January 28.
