Vyalbe said that skiers Alexander Bolshunov and Sergey Ustyugov are to blame for the conflict
President of the Russian Ski Racing Federation (FLGR) Elena Vyalbe commented on the conflict between Alexander Bolshunov and Sergey Ustyugov. Her words are quoted by RT.
Vyalbe said that both athletes were to blame for the incident. She drew attention to the fact that at a distance everything happens instantly and at high speed, which must be maintained. “Sasha was already riding shoulder to shoulder with Sergey from the descent, although, to be honest, I still didn’t understand why it was necessary to do this at all,” the head of the FLGR emphasized.
The clash between Bolshunov and Ustyugov took place in the semi-final freestyle sprint race on December 27. Bolshunov and Ustyugov, being in the leading positions, hit each other on the descent. Both athletes fell and failed to reach the final of the race. As a result of the fall, Bolshunov smashed his face.
After the incident, the athlete said that Ustyugov specially cut him with skis, because of which he fell. At the same time, Ustyugov stressed that he did not do anything intentionally. The FLGR jury stated that the athletes were not to blame for the fall, and therefore should not be punished.
