Iranian footballer Amir Nasr-Azadani escaped the death penalty for the crime of “enmity with God”

The controversy over the life of Iranian soccer player Amir Nasr-Azadani continues, despite the fact that it was recently learned that he will no longer be sentenced to the death penalty, the main reason for the worldwide protests in his favor, after It is known that the player fought for women’s rights in his country.

Amir has been sentenced to 26 years in prison by a court in his country, due to an alleged murder of three members of the security forces in which the athlete was allegedly involved.

Although no official source has reported what he could be involved in this type of crime, it was learned that he is still considered guilty and, therefore, would receive the maximum sentence, which was rejected in exchange for a strong punishment behind bars.

Amir Nasr-Azadani was supported with campaigns on his behalf.

Amir Nasr is also accused of other crimes and ran the risk of being hanged in one of the streets of Iran, for the crime of moharebeh, which means “enmity with God,” reported the daily Marca.

Three others implicated in the murder of the three basijis (Islamic militants) in the city of Isfahan in mid-November were sentenced to death and another to two years in prison.

Amir was saved from the fate of the young Mohsen Shekari and the wrestler Majid Reza Rahnavard. The latter was hanged in public after being accused of the same crime of “enmity with God.”

Due to the accusations against him, various human rights activists have spoken out in favor of Nasr-Azadani, to the point of collecting signatures to avoid the death penalty, which they seem to have achieved.
