The incident occurred at the 52nd kilometer of the first stage of the race. It is specified that, apart from the Briton, no one was injured. The athlete is conscious and able to move, but he suffered a back injury, which required him to be hospitalized.

Sunderland, 33, is the 2017 and 2022 Dakar winner. The 2023 rally marathon started on December 31st. The tournament will run until January 15th.
