The Dakar rally modified its route once again this Friday due to rain and canceled the seventh stage for the motorcycle category, on Saturday, announced its skipper David Castera.

“Given the very late return of the motorcycle riders, very tired, and given the rain,” Saturday’s stage is canceled for that category, Castera said from the Dakar caravan camp in Riyadh. Many competitors were still finishing the sixth stage, on a day marked by cold and rain.
The decision was met with applause from several competitors.
The seventh stage had already seen its route modified by the effect of the rains on Tuesday, which made the place planned for the camp in Al Duwadimi inaccessible. The competition on Saturday is maintained for the car and truck categories and for the Dakar Classic competitors, but not for motorcycles or quads.
Amaury Sport Organization will reassess the rest of the route on Saturday, depending on the weather.
The Dakar rally began on Saturday, December 31, on the shores of the Red Sea for a two-week competition and more than 8,000 kilometers in Saudi Arabia, which hosts the event for the fourth consecutive year.
The final goal is set for January 15 in Dammam. (D)
