Former Spartak coach Raul Riancho said that RPL clubs will impose competition in Asia
The former head coach of Spartak Moscow, Raul Riancho, assessed the prospects for the clubs of the Russian Premier League (RPL) after moving to the Asian Confederation. His words are quoted by Sport24.
“It will be fantastic if, with the transition of Russian football to the AFC, local clubs will participate in international tournaments,” said the Spanish specialist. He added that Russian teams would impose competition in Asia.
Earlier, the Russian Football Union (RFU) held two meetings of the executive committee, which discussed the possibility of moving to the Asian Confederation, but no final decision was made. It was noted that the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) opposed this initiative. At the same time, the International Football Federation (FIFA) will not prevent the Russian team from participating in the selection for the 2026 World Cup in the event of a transition.
On February 28, UEFA excluded Russian teams and clubs from international tournaments. Teams do not play in European competitions and other competitions under the auspices of the organization.
