EL UNIVERSO was present at the official weigh-ins of the fighters for the UFC 268 event on Saturday, November 6.
The Ecuadorian Marlon Chito Vera made the weigh-in by scoring 135 pounds heading into Saturday’s UFC 268 match with American Frankie Edgar (135.6 pounds) at MSG Madison Square Garden in New York.
Among those weighed in on Friday are welterweight champion Kamaru Usman and former interim champion Colby Covington, who meet in a main event rematch; women’s strawweight champion Rose Namajunas and former champion Zhang Weili, who also meet in revenge from the co-feature event; the Ecuadorian bantamweight and his North American contender who is a former UFC (The Ultimate Fighting Championship) lightweight champion; former Bellator champion Michael Chandler and former interim lightweight champion Justin Gaethje open the main card.
This ceremony took place this morning at the New York Hilton Midtown, the host hotel of the UFC in the Big Apple.
“As always in weight @ChitoVeraUFC and goes with everything tomorrow in # UFC268,” published the UFC Spanish Twitter in relation to the 28-year-old tricolor who has a mark of 19-7-1 MMA, 11-6 UFC.
Edgar previously scored 135.6 pounds, which earns him the bantamweight pass.
The duel between Vera and Edgar is part of the main event of UFC 268.
Facing a former champion of the company represents for the South American a great opportunity, in case of achieving victory in the MSG, to make the leap to top 10 of ranking of the 135 pounds.
“I am excited, I am very happy for the opportunity, it is something incredible and, at the end of the day, one more legend in the pocket and on November 6 I earn my place in that top 10 and I get close to that belt,” said days back a confident Chito in statements collected on the social channels of UFC Español.
Regarding his opponent on duty, he said that he does not “worry much” because he is “one more human” who “has two hands and two legs.” “I don’t care if it’s him or someone else. MSG is what I care about, winning there is what will take me to a hundred, for all and I will tear it to pieces ”.
Edgar is 24-9-1 MMA, 18-9-1 UFC.
It will not be the first time that Chito meets a more experienced rival and top 10 of the company, since in 2020 he competed with the Brazilian José Aldo, former featherweight champion, and in 2017 he collided with the also Brazilian John Lineker who at that time was fifth of the ranking. In both combats the manabita was defeated.
The UFC 268 card is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. on Saturday with the start of the preliminaries that will be broadcast by ESPN. The main event is scheduled for 9:00 p.m. and will be broadcast exclusively by Star+.
