After a warm welcome by the fans during his first match in Australia since his dismissal last year, the Serb Novak Djokovic fell in doubles before the duo formed by the Ecuadorian Gonzalo Escobar and the Bosnian Tomislav Brkic.
The 21-time Grand Slam champion lost despite the support of the public present for the Adelaide ATP. His partner was the Canadian Vasek Pospisilwith whom they fell in a duel that lasted 1 hour and 31 minutes.

Djokovic and Pospisil won the first set 6-4but the Escobar and Brkic reaction made itself felt in the second quarter for win 6-3 and extend the definition of juice to a match tie break that was favorable for the Ecuadorian and Bosnian by 10-5.
With the win, Escobar and Brkic will face the duo made up of the Salvadoran Marcelo Arevalo and the Dutchman Jean-Julien Rojer in the round of 16.
For his part, Djokovic will begin his participation in singles against the Frenchman Constant Lestienne.
This was the Serb’s first game in Australia after being deported in January 2022 for not being vaccinated against COVID-19, with a restriction of not entering the country for three years.
In November the ban was lifted and he returned at the end of December to face the Adelaide ATP in preparation for the Australia Open, in search of his tenth title in Melbourne. (D)
