Avangard names convicted American hockey player Reed Bush as team leader

The general manager of the Avangard Kontinental Hockey League club Rashid Khabibulin explained the extension of the contract with the American hockey player Reed Bush, who raped a minor girl. His words are given in the Telegram channel of Omsk residents.

Khabibulin called Bush the leader of the team, whom it was important to keep for the next season. He stressed that an agreement with the American in the context of reducing the limit on legionnaires is especially necessary. “He always aims at the goal, boldly goes into the fight, all these qualities, together with high performance, are valued in the playoffs,” said the club’s general manager.

In July, Bush signed a contract with the Omsk club for one season. The agreement was then extended for another year.

On December 13 last year, during a court hearing, Bush admitted that at the age of 17 he raped a 12-year-old girl. A court in the United States went to meet the athlete, allowing him to file for a lesser charge. Initially, he was charged with committing a first-degree sexual offense, for which the American was threatened with up to 25 years in prison. As a result, the athlete was sentenced to one year of probation in the United States.

Boucher is best known for playing for the New Jersey Devils, Nashville Predators, and Vancouver Canucks of the National Hockey League. As part of Avangard, he became the first US hockey player to win the Gagarin Cup. In Russia, in addition to the Omsk club, he also played for the Yaroslavl Lokomotiv.
