Last year, Paweł Fajdek became the world champion in the hammer throw in the American Eugene. Nevertheless, in the fans’ vote, he took only 9th place. The verdict of the fans apparently did not like the athlete, which he made clear in a strong way. When he received the award, he gave a speech in which he did not hide his bitterness.
“I guess I need to stop winning.” Fajdek angry at the Sports Champions Gala
The athlete bitterly commented on the fans’ decision. – I guess I have to stop winning, because the more titles I win, the lower my place is, he said, half jokingly, half seriously. There was consternation in the room. Fajdek reflected after a while and praised the fans for the diversity in the top ten.
– I’m really impressed by the fans that they made a big “wow”, because everyone is in shock. But no, that’s cool. Positive. I would like to thank my family for their support, added Fajdek during his speech, emphasizing that he was now serious.
However, dissatisfaction could not be hidden. Even his facial expression testified about him. The ending of the Polish hammer thrower also sounded quite strange. – I wish you a good time, have fun, definitely better than me – he summed up.

This is not the first time that Fajdek has criticized the results of the plebiscite. “Shame. I don’t greet” – this is how he commented on Robert Lewandowski’s victory. – You want to sweeten the lack of the Golden Ball for Robert – he thundered. – In my opinion, Anita’s third gold should be appreciated, the third gold in a row! wow! the sportsman admonished. And he wrote in the statement: “Comparing the golden ball, with all due respect, to the plebiscite for the athlete of the year in Poland is like comparing winning a tennis slam with a challenger in Poznań! I have been involved in professional sport for over 20 years, since I remember, I am a football, volleyball, track and field, biathlon or ski jumping fan and as a fan I am simply ashamed of what has been going on in this plebiscite for many years.”
Paweł Fajdek is the world champion in the hammer throw of 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2022. In his career, he also won a gold medal (2016) and two silver medals (2014, 2018) at the European Championships.
