Italian Daniel Orsato was named the best referee of the World Cup in Qatar
Italian Daniele Orsato has been named the best referee for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. It is reported by Sky Sport.
Orsato became the laureate of the Giulio Campanati International Prize. According to the jury, who voted for the Italian, the referee demonstrated an impeccable level of refereeing in the three matches of the tournament in which he worked.
Orsato officiated three matches of the 2022 World Cup. He worked in the opening game between Qatar and Ecuador (0:2), the second round of the group stage between Argentina and Mexico (2:0) and in the semi-final between Argentina and Croatia, which ended in a 3:0 victory for the South American team.
The Giulio Campanati Prize was established after the 2014 World Cup in Brazil in memory of the President of the Campanati Italian Arbitration Association. The award is given to the best referees of the World and European Championships.
