Alisson misses as Liverpool draw Wolverhampton in FA Cup

THE Liverpool struggled through the third round of the English Cup this Saturday and ended in a draw with Wolverhampton. At Anfield, the home team went behind and even managed to turn the game around, but suffered a draw and the match ended 2-2. Darwin Nuñez and Mohamed Salah scored for the home team. The visitors scored with Gonçalo Ramos.

As there was no winner, the teams will have to face each other again to define who advances to the next phase. The second clash will be played at Wolverhampton’s Molineux Stadium.

Before the return game, Liverpool returns to the field next Saturday, at 12:00 (Brasília time), to face Brighton away from home, for the 20th round of the English Championship. Wolverhampton’s next challenge will be for the English League Cup, on Wednesday, against Nottingham Forest.

Wolverhampton were under pressure for most of the first half and spent less time in possession. Still, it scared with counterattacks. In the 26th minute of the first half, the visitors had a grotesque failure by Alisson to open the scoring. Thiago failed on the way out, but managed to recover and the ball reached the goalkeeper, who tried to touch it. The Brazilian, however, could not take it from Gonçalo Ramos. The striker stole and played into the empty net.

Liverpool took time to create clear opportunities again, but needed only one to tie the game. With 45 minutes, Alexander-Arnold made a beautiful launch for Darwin Nuñez to invade the area. The Uruguayan striker played cross, first, and left everything the same at Anfield.

The hosts came back better from the break and managed to score in the 10th minute of the second half. Mohamed Salah, who was offside, was thrown into the back of the defense and a deflection nullified his irregular position. With the touch of the defense, the ball landed in the foot of the attacker, who dominated and, from the middle of the penalty area, hit the left corner to turn the game around.

At 20, Wolverhampton equaled the score again with a table between Matheus Cunha and Hwang Hee-Chan. The Brazilian received it inside the area and returned it to the Korean, who played for the goal. The ball was deflected by the defense and went under Alisson, who didn’t react in time.

Wolverhampton got to swing the nets again. After a move from the right, the ball was left in the area and was finished. Toti Gomes played with lyrics and scored, but an offside was called and the goal was annulled.
