2022 was rich in events and sports successes of the White-Reds on international arenas. Traditionally, on the first Saturday of January, the best athlete of the “Przegląd Sportowy” plebiscite was selected. In the 88th edition, Iga Witek triumphed, and the podium was completed by Bartosz Zmarzlik and Robert Lewandowski. Not only athletes could count on a special award. The award was also given in the “Team of the Year” category. The winner was the Polish men’s volleyball team. Several players appeared on the stage to receive the statuettes. The coach, Nikola Grbic, was also present at the Sports Champions Gala. The Serb made a short speech and delighted the audience.

On January 12, 2022, Grbić became the coach of the White and Reds. In the next 12 months, he achieved a lot of success with the team. He won the bronze medal of the League of Nations and the vice-championship of the world – in the final the team lost to the representation of Italy 1:3 (25:22, 21:25, 18:25, 20:25). Despite the loss, the Poles remained at the top of the FIVB ranking.

No wonder that the title of “Team of the Year” was given to Nikola Grbic’s team. After the award ceremony, the Serb decided to thank the fans for the distinction and support in a unique way. The trainer surprised the spectators and gave a short speech in Polish. Although he supported himself with a piece of paper, his gesture made a great impression on the gathered audience.

– Thank you all for a successful season. In sports, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. We may not always be able to win, but I’m sure there will never be a lack of excitement. We ask for support regardless of the result – said Serb, which caused real euphoria, and the room was uproar. Grbic also delighted Internet users. “Respect for that!”, “Hooray for courage” – we read on social media. Some fans even compared the Serbian to Vital Heynen, the former head coach of the White and Reds.

The year 2022 was intense for the Grbic team. A lot of work awaits our representatives also in 2023. The European Men’s Volleyball Championships will take place from August 28 to September 16. The Biało-Czerwoni will play in group C with North Macedonia, Montenegro, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic and Denmark.
