Real Sociedad beat Almería 0-2 this Sunday, January 8, in the match corresponding to the LaLiga Santander matchday 16. Thus, the txuri-urdin team is reinforced in third place (Champions League position) in the standings.

Summary of the Almeria-Real Sociedad

The first part was even and with few scoring chances. La Real had possession of the ball, but it was difficult for them to create clear chances. The first did not come until minute 14, when Fernando, the Almería goalkeeper, gave the ball to Kubo, and the Japanese finished off wide. Twenty minutes later Real had their second chance to score, but Illarramendi’s header went wide, after Mikel Merino’s cross.

For its part, Almería was powerless. The Andalusian team tried to generate danger through counterattacks, but it hardly worried goalkeeper Remiro. Just before the break, Remiro had to clear a ball in his area to prevent Ramazani from getting to finish.

The rest was good for the team led by Imanol Alguacil, since in the restart his dominance was total. Thus, in minute 47 came the first goal for Real; Kubo entered the area, gave a good pass back, and Silva made it 0-1 on the scoreboard with a good finish.

The conceded goal hurt Almería, and the San Sebastian team had the game under control. Six minutes after the txuri-urdin goal, Real Sociedad increased their lead; Sorloth scored 0-2 after receiving a great pass from Mikel Merino and beating goalkeeper Fernando.

With the two goals at the start of the second half, Real left the match seen for sentencing. Almería continued without being able to harm their rival, and only had a chance in the final stretch.

The San Sebastian team was able to score the third eight minutes from time, but Fernando Martínez prevented it with two consecutive actions: first by stopping Mikel Oyarzabal’s one-on-one shot, who came on in the second half, and then against the homegrown midfielder Robert Navarro, after the rejection. Already in the 90th minute, the Almería team was able to close the gap, but Babic’s shot went wide by very little.

In the end, Real Sociedad took the three points from Almería (0-2).
