Michael Morales will be out next Saturday, December 17 at the UFC Vegas 66 event due to a broken toe that forces him to stop for at least five weeks.
“Fracture stupid. Ecuador comes out of this and stronger, ”Morales wrote on his Twitter account on November 30.
The 23-year-old Ecuadorian welterweight attached an X-ray image of the affected foot.
Morales was scheduled to face Russian Rinat Fakhretdinov in the octagon of the UFC Apex in the preliminary stage of the UFC Fight Night card headed by Americans Jared Cannonier and Sean Strickland, contenders in the middleweight division.
The fight had been agreed since September and was the third appearance of Orense in the UFC since he debuted on January 22, 2022 at UFC 270 in Anaheim (California).
Morales remains undefeated at a professional level in mixed martial arts (MMA, in English) and in the promotion led by Dana White.
Morales’ physical trainer, the Mexican Andy Caballero, lamented the “Spider’s” injury and his absence until at least January 2023. “At all times worry about solidly doing what is in your hands. Let’s recover!” published on the social network Instagram.
The Orense athlete aspired to finish his first year in the UFC by completing the three fights that were included in his first contract that he signed in September 2021.
Morales plans to return to the UFC cage in January or next February.
